CRN Recognizes SonicWall’s Steve Pataky as 2017 Channel Chief

Steve PatakyI am honored to highlight my esteemed colleague, Steve Pataky, Vice President of Worldwide Sales at SonicWall, who was just named CRN Channel Chief – the Top 50 Most Influential Channel Chiefs of 2017. Steve not only brings with him more than 25 years of experience and an industry reputation for architecting and executing global channel and go-to-market strategies, but also a deep and genuine passion for helping partners succeed. He’s been a recipient of the CRN Channel Chiefs award for several years, and was among the magazine’s 50 Most Influential Channel Chiefs in 2014, 2015 and again this year.

CRN’s 50 Most Influential Channel Chiefs of 2017 are drawn from a larger group of Channel honorees that represent the elite members of the IT channel executives – “leaders who drive the channel agenda and evangelize the importance of the channel partnerships.”

2017 Channel Chief

These are exciting times for SonicWall and our Partners. As the newly independent SonicWall we are proudly declaring that we are once again 100% channel, 100% security, 100% of the time. We are so fortunate to have the most tenured, talented and loyal Partners and I know Steve, along with the entire company, feels a deep and abiding obligation to ensure this next generation of SonicWall always puts our Partners first in our strategies and our priorities.

To that end, Steve and our channel team have launched the SonicWall SecureFirst Partner Program worldwide to our thousands of valued SonicWall Partners. SecureFirst is designed to easily give partners access to our entire security portfolio and reward them for the value they bring to selling and supporting SonicWall solutions. We’re thrilled that SecureFirst is off to a extremely fast start. In the first 90 days:

  • SecureFirst program registrations reached over 9,000 Partners across 90 countries
  • SecureFirst registrations in North America exceeded 5,900 Partners
  • SecureFirst Deal Registrations have spiked 66% in North America since divestiture

We look forward to continue helping our partners work with their customers to successfully navigate the expanding landscape of advanced threats in the cyber security arms race. We’re actively driving an industry-leading product portfolio to help customers detect and prevent breaches delivered in any vehicle, in any package, across any network and on any device. In fact, our continued innovations around the SonicWall real time breach prevention platform recently won four awards at RSA 2017 including SC Magazine Trust Award for Best UTM Security Solution for our SonicWall TZ Firewall Series.

It’s clear that with Steve as our channel chief, backed by the full commitment and resource of SonicWall, we will continue to always put our Partners first, with SecureFirst.

SonicWall is on a Winning Streak in the Cyber Arms Race at RSA 2017

As we wrap up a “winning” week at the 2017 RSA conference in San Francisco, attended by more than 45,000, I am excited to highlight incredible momentum from our Threat Report, recent industry awards, and most importantly the conversations with our loyal customers and partners. We are excited to hear the overwhelming enthusiasm for the 2017 Annual Threat Report, the launch of Email Security 9.0 with Capture, the technical preview of SonicOS 6.2.7 and our SecureFirst Partner Program. In the kiosks in our booth, we demoed solutions to prevent breaches, stop phishing attacks, block ransomware, uncover SSL encrypted threats and identify compromised IoT devices.

All of the innovation to get ahead of the cyber arms race we are delivering to the marketplace has resulted in four awards. Just yesterday, SonicWall won the prestigious SC Magazine Trust Award for Best UTM Security Solution for our SonicWall TZ Firewall Series. The TZ is the most secure, sophisticated and widely deployed small-business firewall platforms on the market today. The TZ Series offers a range of Unified Threat Management solutions for SMB and distributed enterprises across retail, government, remote sites and branch offices. SonicWall also won in three categories from InfoSecurity Products Guide – Global Excellence Awards:

New Products and Services

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Security

  • SILVER for SonicWall Secure Mobile Access 1000 Series (version OS 12.0)
Info Security Products Guide 2017 - Global Excellence Silver Award

Advanced Persistent Threat Detection and Response

The conference was also an opportunity to showcase our ground breaking 2017 SonicWall Annual Threat Report. We continue to build on the momentum of the unique threat data presented in the report. Among the findings discussed were:

  • Volume of unique malware samples declined to 60 million, a 6.25 percent decrease.
  • Point-of-sale malware creation declined by 93% percent since 2014.
  • Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security encrypted traffic increased by 34 percent year-over-year.
  • Cyber criminals shifted their focus to new threats, including ransomware attacks which grew by 167x year-over-year. Internet of Things devices created a new attack vector opening the door for large scale distributed denial-of-service attacks.

RSA 2017 Awards

Because email is a constant target for attacks, we had a kiosk presenting our new SonicWall Email Security 9.0 with Capture ATP. The cloud sandboxing allows you to deploy a next-gen solution for protecting email files, stop phishing and block zero-day attacks and ransomware.

We are also celebrating the launch of our SonicWall Secure First Partner Program. As a 100% channel company, SecureFirst is the way our channel partners access the entire SonicWall portfolio of technology and solutions. With the different levels of commitment to the program come various levels of rewards and benefits. Central to the new program is Reward for Value, SonicWall’s partner profitability framework that rewards partners for the value they bring to selling, implementing, and supporting SonicWall solutions. And SecureFirst is off to a really fast start. In the first 90 days:

  • SecureFirst program registrations reached 8,563 across 90 countries
  • SecureFirst registrations in North America exceeded 5,400
  • SecureFirst New Partner Registrations more than 1,500
  • SecureFirst partner deal registrations spike 66% since divestiture

At SonicWall, we are committed to helping our customers and partners fight the attacks to get ahead of the cyber arms race with the intelligence of our GRID Network, next-gen firewalls, extending our award-winning Capture capabilities with our Email Security solutions, and IoT security to protect the enterprise and drive business productivity. Our goal is to have our award-winning breach prevention, IoT device security and encrypted threat solutions reinforce each other and defend independently to ensure we are setting the highest level of protection for value for our customers and partners.

SonicWall’s Capture Advanced Threat Protection Wins 2016 CRN Products of the Year Award

There’s no question companies are being more proactive in their network security approach than ever before. We’ve made substantial gains as an industry, in terms of cybersecurity education and adoption rates across businesses of all sizes. But when major technology companies with multi-layered security programs are still falling victim to breaches year after year, it points to a different problem altogether – that even accepted security best practices can sometimes leave gaps.

It’s this simple and unavoidable truth that drives SonicWall to continue innovating to stay one step ahead of cyber attackers. And there isn’t a better example of this innovation than our cloud-based Capture Advanced Threat Protection Service.

In recent years, many companies have begun incorporating threat detection systems to protect against network attacks. These systems typically rely on a single-engine sandbox, which each vendor sets up to detect threats in a specified way, for example by scanning memory or cache. As you can imagine, this approach leaves security blind spots – cybercriminals only need to know which type of detection is being used to evade it. Even technology analysts have been at a loss for a simple solution, often suggesting customers leverage advanced threat protection from multiple vendors at once in the hopes of covering their bases.

Our team of product engineers recognized that for an advanced threat protection solution to truly stop unknown and zero-day attacks, it would need to address two weaknesses inherent in existing products: First, it would need to use a multi-engine, cloud-based sandboxing approach. Second, to take protection to the next level, the product would need to provide simple, automated remediation. This year, that innovative idea came to fruition as Capture, which was eagerly embraced by our enterprise users and has since become the hallmark of SonicWall’s offering.

Today, we are thrilled to announce that Capture has been recognized as the winner of the 2016 CRN Products of the Year Award for Customer Demand in the Security Network category.

CRN Products of the Year Award

CRN is a key IT industry publication for value-added resellers and technology solution providers. The publication hosts an annual call for entries to recognize companies that introduced the year’s most innovative and groundbreaking tech solutions. To win top honors in its category, Capture was evaluated on its ability to transform the tech industry by:

  • reducing production costs
  • increasing worker productivity
  • improving ease of use and money saved for both providers and consumers

Capture not only takes an innovative approach to solving these challenges, it’s proved supremely effective at protecting our customers’ networks against the ever-evolving and intensifying threat landscape. In 2015, our threat research team observed a 73% increase in unique malware samples collected over the previous year. Most of these threats were targeted, evasive and zero-day attacks found across computing systems and devices. Capture was able to detect and halt even advanced, layered attacks by combining the different protection approaches single-sandbox vendors use into one, multi-engine service. So far, the results have been remarkable:

  • stopped 7,300 newly developed malware infections in the past three months
  • stopped 1,400 zero-day attacks
  • provided a two-second mean processing time for files, with 82.8 percent of all files being processed in under five seconds
  • exceeded expected adoption rate on firewalls, including double the expected adoption rate on higher-end firewalls

Now we are honored to receive the CRN 2016 Products of the Year Award, as it is a gratifying reflection on the hard work and innovative thinking of countless SonicWall team members. And as we head into 2017 as a standalone brand, we remain just as dedicated as ever to continue this innovation to create a more secure world for our clients.

What started as a problem that no one in the industry knew how to solve has now become a market-leading, award-winning threat protection solution, keeping businesses safer around the globe. In a few short months, Capture has become a shining example of the opportunity that motivates us as innovators and industry leaders every day – when we put our knowledge and resources to work, we can play a meaningful role in enabling businesses to worry less and achieve more.
