Alex is the architect and the inventor of SonicWall’s Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection (RFDPI™) core differentiating technology for SonicWall network security products. He is also the author of Reassembly-Free Deep Packet Inspection patents and reassembly-free gateway file scanning patents. In total, Alex is the author of more than 35 patents granted by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in network security and content security areas.

Alex oversees all SonicWall cyber threat prevention security services, functionality and Deep Packet Inspection technology software development, including Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Gateway Antivirus (GAV), Capture ATP (on SonicOS), Application Intelligence & Control, SSL Decryption/Inspection (DPI-SSL) and SSH Decryption/Inspection (DPI-SSH). He also leads the development of SonicWall’s patent-pending Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection (RTDMI™) malware sandbox engine and heads up the SonicWall Capture Labs threat research team.

Alex is a long-time member of the threat research community and an active reporter for the WildList organization, a well-known malware threat intelligence sharing group. Alex has been with SonicWall for 16 years and has 18-plus years of experience in software R&D and threat research in both individual contributor and leadership roles. Alex holds a B.S. in Computer Science & Engineering and an M.S. in Computer Science, both from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
